| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description The Sway 'n Soothe Auto Rocking Bassinet from The First Years features gentle side-to-side rocking motion with the turn of a dial for soothing and calming your infant.
The soothing movement features adjustable swing speeds.
Each musical or sound offering has a distinctive shaped button for easy use:
The diamond shape plays the classic lullaby, the triangle shape plays the lullaby medley, the heart shape plays nature sounds and the star shapes plays white noise.
A soft nightlight, with an easy-to-press off and on feature, gives caregivers the ability to check on their infant without waking them from their restful sleep. The nightlight, if not manually turned off, will dim and then automatically turn off after approximately two minutes.
The additional storage pocket keeps those extra little items close at hand.
The storage pocket, the storage basket and removable toys are all machine-washable in warm water on the gentle cycle, no bleach, tumble dry on low, (no ironing please).

Question about this bassinet July 26, 2010 Kelly This is more of a question than a review - but i know many of you have this item and maybe you can shed some light on this for me. I registered for and received this item at my baby shower. We just set it up last week and were confused and surprised to see that the baby literally has to be strapped in with a harness akin to that in a swing, bouncer, car seat, etc. This is presenting a problem for me on many levels - baby is not here yet but i am concerned about not being able to use swaddles or sleep sacks, an infant positioner, or most importantly, the Angelcare movement sensor that needs to go under the mattress. Everyone is telling me to just cut the straps off but of course it has a million warnings not to use the item without the straps. I don't see how this could be dangerous if the baby wasn't rocking. I am also confused as to why no where on the box or the packing is it mentioned that baby must be strapped in, or that you need special sheets, covers, etc. because of this feature. Can someone shed some light for me? I love the bassinet for its looks and the features but this is really putting me off. Thanks.
Bought us extra sleep time but eats up the batteries July 16, 2010 TexasBehemoth We literally used this bassinet until he physically outgrew it in length! He really liked the rocking (as did we) and the white noise. Some nights I would need to keep running it to get him back to sleep and when you have to run it several times in a row it can go thru the batteries. The switch has a loud "click" to start or stop the rocking or music and it did wake the baby a time or two. I wish you could set the amount of time for it to run but you cannot. It runs about 15 min. and stops. The night light I would not call "soft". It was really bright and hits them right in the face. Sooo...with that said....bottom line is....I liked the product and it served its purpose. I would recommend it.
Haven't had a better bassinet February 20, 2010 Lisa M. Mcrae (texas) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The main reason that I purchased this bassinet was because of the automatic rocking. However, I didn't need to use the rocking one while my son slept in it for the first four months. My first two children loved being rocked, and I always had to do it manually. Getting a rocking bassinet seemed like a really good idea. I never needed it this time. Go figure. But the rocking did work great as I obviously tried it. There was a little noise from it, but no more than you get with a baby swing. The night light, the music and sounds, the fact that you can lock the bassinet so it doesn't rock, the detachable toys, the mesh siding so that the baby won't soffocate if his/her face gets pressed on the side, and the generously sized basket underneath all made this an outstanding bassinet. Even though I didn't use the rocking part of it, I would still choose this bassinet the other two that I had for my first two children. I loved it and I'm going to hold onto it "just in case" there's another little bundle of joy that comes along.
New Father November 14, 2009 Harvey Yamada (Sao Paulo, Brazil) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I think the previous review about the rocking breaking after one day sounds like they have a defective unit. I've had this bassinet for about four weeks now and my new son sleeps very soundly in the unit. I like the small light that gives a small amount of illumination for middle of the night when he starts moving around or crying and you want to check if his diaper is wet or needs changing. I never lock the unit in place because we are always using the rocking feature to either manually rock him to sleep with our hands or using the motor to rock him when our hands are tied up. The mattress of the unit didn't seem too comfortable for a newborn so we added a memory foam mattress we made from the mattress topper from our bed we replaced in his room and he really sleeps well in the unit. We are going on the fourth week tomorrow with the first set of batteries still in the unit which I was expecting to change more often.
